Outdoor Signs 1
Sometimes even foot traffic needs regulation.

Outdoor Signs: Traffic and Parking Signs

If traffic signs are to be located on state roads (including roads, in subdivisions that have been adopted by the state), they fall under the MUTCD (Manual of Universal Traffic Control Device) Regulations. These regulate the size, materials used, reflectivity of background and lettering and even the breakaway safety requirements for posts. Traffic signs on private roads are not covered by these regulations. Street parking signs on state roads are covered by the same MUTCD regulations but parking signs in private parking lots are not; except for any handicapped parking signs which may be displayed. To be enforceable, those signs must comply with MUTCD regulations also. Other parking signs are exempt.
